These grants are to be used to encourage outstanding students to pursue and complete a graduate degree at such institutions in an area of the food and agricultural sciences for which there is a national need for development of scientific expertise- Therefore, institutions that currently have excellent programs for graduate study and research in the food and agricultural sciences dealing with targeting national needs are particularly encouraged to apply. Money can he used to support a student completing a two-year masters program or a three-year doctoral program. Students must apply to hose institutions that received the money.
